Teaching
I teach one-on-one or small-group private English courses to middle and high school students.
Specialized to your education wishlist. Tell me if there are any specific skills, concepts, or books you want your student to learn and I can incorporate them into the course
Engaging content. Learning should be fun. I love writing and English, and I think that passion is contagious
Focus on higher-order concerns. Skills like spelling and grammar develop over time as you focus on high-order concerns such as content development and literary analysis. Focusing on higher-order concerns ensures that your student develops important critical thinking and communication skills while simultaneously helping them improve grammar, spelling, and editing skills
Meets once a week via Zoom with weekly assignments. Eight-week, sixteen-week, semester-long, or custom-length classes are available.
This English course is designed to prepare homeschooled students for college-level humanities courses. The content is especially applicable if your student intends to study the humanities or attend a liberal arts college. Perfect for high school juniors and seniors. Develops college-level skills such as:
Deciphering college-level assignments
Writing using a style guide such as MLA or APA (in-text citations, reference pages, essay formatting, etc.)
Completing college-level research (peer-reviewed and/or academically accepted writing rather than articles discovered via Google)
Reading and adhering to a syllabus
Avoiding accidental plagiarism
Meets once a week via Zoom with weekly assignments. Eight-week, sixteen-week, semester-long, or custom-length classes are available.
Tutoring
I meet your student where they are at to help them complete assignments and improve in the chosen subject. Additionally, my tutoring method uses assignments as an opportunity to teach your student transferable skills and tools that they can use for the rest of their lives in school and at work.
Tutoring sessions can be recurring meetings (for those tricky subjects) or one-time occurrences (for those BIG assignments). One-on-one tutoring via Zoom, email, or in-person meetings.
This service is especially helpful for things like:
Deciphering assignment instructions
Determining assignment requirements
Brainstorming essay ideas when stuck
Revising a finished draft
College Application Essays
As a trained college writing tutor, I have an eye for detail and the ability to help students polish existing essay drafts so that they can present the best version of themselves in college application essays. Receive feedback by submitting your essay via email or take advantage of a personalized experience with an additional half-hour Zoom session.
Using your student's application essay prompt as a guide, I provide feedback on content and grammar to help your student develop an essay that showcases what makes your student a great fit for the school they are applying to.
Group Workshops
Learning in groups brings energy and excitement to any concept. I love brainstorming interactive, discussion-based, and/or hands-on activities to teach groups. From elementary students to adults, I enjoy workshops with any age group.
Workshops can be taught on a one-time basis or as a several-session course.
I would love to bring workshops to your group on the English topic of your choice. Here are some workshop ideas for your consideration:
Creative Writing Skills. From pacing to dialogue to content development, I love teaching creative writing to any group.
Introduction to Poetry. This workshop works for any age group. It is especially fun if your group of young kiddos has time for a walk during the workshop.
